Are you making culture, or just making product? “Make Art Great Again©” is a conceptual work exploring how cultural context and connotation can radically change the way a message is taken.
Because of its similarity to the MAGA slogan, many interpreted the piece as political provocation or appropriation, even as something catered to Trump supporters. This tension reshaped the project, evolving it into a study of semiotics. This work now explores how a symbol, like a red hat with a particular white text, can carry so much historical and emotional weight that it overrides the creator’s pure and original intent. The stickers on the side, reading “Your Art Matters” and “Handle With Care”, acknowledge how the work risks misunderstanding.
